IN SEARCH OF…… - MAY 12, 2019


Well, it’s Saturday and we’re all packed except for a few things we’ll be wearing on our last night of dining and dancing and we’re ready to disembark tomorrow.

In the meantime, while I was taking down our World Map hung in our stateroom and tracking our around-the-world adventure (seems like I just put the map up), I thought I’d photograph all the magnets we purchased on our journey…

CRUISING ON THE PACIFIC

This is our sixth day at sea and we’ll be arriving in Honolulu tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 th .   If the past week is any indication of what we should expect, we will have a TERRIFIC WORLD CRUISE!   For me, the excitement of a cruise begins when I see my luggage coming down the conveyor belt at the airport onto the carousel.   It is always a very welcomed sight.   With four additional bags (we already brought two bags to Los Angeles in December), a carry-on, Michael’s CPAP machines (he brought two this time just in case) and his backpack, we got to Union Station via the Flyaway from LAX where Michael’s brother picked us up so we could enjoy a lovely pre-cruise visit with him and his wife.   They were kind enough to take us to San Pedro where we embarked the Pacific Princess.   Check-in was uneventful and as soon as we got to our cabin, the first thing we always do is check the daily newsletter, the Princess Patter, for the time to meet with the maître

FIVE DAYS TO GO

After months of planning, we’re just two days away from leaving for Los Angeles on Thursday, January 17 th , for our embarkation on the Pacific Princess on Sunday, January 20 th .   We’re most fortunate to be able to enjoy another 111-day World Cruise.   Our first was in 2016 and, although we had booked the WC for 2018, we realized that the itinerary was the same and didn’t think that made any sense.   When we learned that we’d be going to Africa this time (instead of through the Middle East and the Mediterranean), we decided, “Let’s do it.”   We’re all packed with much too much luggage, as usual, but that’s just the way it is.   I’ve given up worrying about it.   For 3 ½ months, there are so many things that we take for granted being at home, that, at least for me, I must have my creature comforts.   We’ve already taken two suitcases down to Los Angeles when we visited Michael’s brother and sister-in-law before Christmas.   We’ll have four more suitcases that also contain stor

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – February 12th

We missed Tonga altogether because of the weather in the Pacific so the Captain headed directly from Raiatea to Auckland, New Zealand with an estimated time of arrival at 8 p.m. on Monday, February 11 th .   On the way there, on the evening of the 10 th , we were able to see a volcanic island somewhere in the Pacific.   From what we were told by some passengers (and we have come to take what we hear with a very small grain of salt), this volcano erupted in 2017.   It’s still smoldering and spewing ash.   Michael was able to take some pictures;   I had never seen a volcano that is still active like this one.    We were on our balcony as we approached Auckland on Monday evening and we could see the skyline from a distance.   As soon as we got closer and closer, we began to see various watercraft, i.e., sailboats, motor boats, cargo ships, and even some type of water skiing with what looked like a parasail (no motorboat), ferries, and other small boats, very similar to Sea
