HUAHINI, FEBRUARY 3RD
Huahine is part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia
and lies 110 miles north west of Tahiti, in the South Pacific, half way between
South America and Australia. Population
6,000 (2007). French, Tahitian and
English spoken here.
We arrived on Sunday, February 3rd, and expected
just about everything to be closed.
Because of the heat and humidity, I sent the wonderful Michael out in
search of our magnet. It was necessary
to tender and once he got to the island took a free shuttle to the town about
15-20 miles away.
He was able to find a shop to purchase a magnet and also
encountered a couple of beautiful women along the way. He also reported there was a huge supermarket
that carried everything from chorizo to motor scooters and building supplies.
MICHAEL’S OBSERVATIONS:
Again, the island is filled with very friendly people and, like Tahiti,
the traffic, of which there is quite a bit, will stop for pedestrians. I always wave and acknowledge their observance
and courtesy. Coming back, I was on the
tender with the performers that had greeted us in the morning and they were
able to perform upstairs on the outside deck in the hot sun so I only watched
for a bit. Although it is incredibly hot
and humid, it is also incredibly beautiful.
The water is an amazing aqua color and super clear. It’s easy to understand how someone could
fall in love with the Islands.
NO PHOTOS - I'VE TRIED FOR THE LAST TO TWO TO UPLOAD THEM. TERRIBLE CONNECTION. WILL TRY AND POST WHEN WE GET TO NEW ZEALAND.
